The english version of Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire was brought to the linux community by Lokigames. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (sometimes abbreviated to SMAC or Alpha Centauri) is a 4X turn-based strategic computer game created by Brian Reynolds and Sid Meier under the auspices of Firaxis Games in 1999. It is based on a fictional attempt by human beings to colonize a planet in the Alpha Centauri star system. It picks up where Reynolds' earlier title, Civilization II, left off. An expansion pack called Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire (aka SMACX or just SMAX) was also released. Although popular with gamers, the game never reached the heights of success of the Civilization games. Pre-patched versions of Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire were later bundled together in the Alpha Centauri Planetary Pack. Below are some information on which version the language pack applies, about installation and something about the features. You should read them carefully.

The language pack applies from the following versions. If you want to know which version you are currently running type smacpack -v at your shell prompt.

What should i download?
Here you find a list of files you can download. Download the most recent version of the language pack you want to play and only the latest version is available for download here. If you want an older version take a look at the download directory.
How do i install it?
Installation is simple, just follow the steps below. If it does not work, please send a bug report to me. Notice: There is no reason to download all language packs, except testing, if you only want to play in your native language only download your language pack. The setup process automatically detects available language packs.
1. Download babelize-smacx-de-1.0.1.tar.gz from above.
2. tar xzf babelize-smacx-de-1.0.1.tar.gz && cd babelize-smacx-de-1.0.1
3. ./configure && make && make install
Are there any limitations or known problems?
Yes and no, it depends on definition. First of all i can say the complete game is localized, the campaigns, the mission briefing, the menus, the speech and the story. Below you see the list of known limitations and bugs.
On some localized version some files are not included (i think they are never used in that specific language) You can find detailed information in the FAQ file inside the language pack.
